ABOUT REFOREST LONDON
ReForest London (RFL) is a small but mighty non-profit organization with a vision to see our community thrive in a healthy urban forest. We work to enhance environmental and human health in the Forest City by inspiring, educating and empowering Londoners to plant and care for trees and to be part of a sustainability-focused future for our community.
Since our founding in 2005, we have grown to become London’s largest environmental not-for-profit organization. Powered by passionate staff and volunteers, ReForest London plants, cares for, and gives away thousands of trees each year. Along with the City of London, we are a founding partner of the community-wide Million Tree Challenge. RFL is also actively developing the new Westminster Ponds Centre (WPC), London’s first and only environment and sustainability centre. Led by ReForest London, the WPC will inspire and advance environmental change in our community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Media and Content Strategist to develop digital marketing and communications strategies, tools, messaging and assets for ReForest London in support of the Westminster Ponds Centre (WPC), the Million Tree Challenge (MTC) and the organization overall.
This is a 16 week, full-time position (37.5 hours / week) beginning in May, 2023, at $16.50/hr (Contingent upon funding).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Development of Content (85%)
· Develop website content such as site history, program activity stories and tenant profiles
· Create messaging on the benefits of trees for use across all digital platforms
· Create ‘support’ messaging for multiple audiences including MTC partners and potential partners
· Develop digital storytelling guidelines and frameworks so our news articles tell compelling stories that connect strongly with audiences
· Develop urban forest advocacy messaging on the importance of access to local parks and green space
· Additional Data Management (15%)
· Develop a comprehensive system for handling and identifying our image library
· Explore improvement of our communication systems
· Curate an inventory of content for use in marketing, fundraising and outreach
· Other tasks as assigned
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, and loves taking on a project with multiple areas of focus. You are familiar with the latest trends and best practices in digital engagement and communications, and you have a keen eye for employing different tactics to get results. You are familiar with the programs and tools that will help us to build our brand, reach a broader audience, and drive engagement and action to generate a bigger impact in the Forest City. You are a strategic thinker, and you will bring your passion for engaging the community to create a greener future.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
· University or college graduate of one of the following fields: Marketing, Business Marketing, Media, Communications Studies, or a related field
· Applicants must be fluent in English – both written and spoken
· Meet eligibility requirements as outlined below
Because this position would be funded through a federal employment program, in order to be eligible, candidates must be:
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or have granted refugee status in Canada (no work permits or student visas),
and:
Be between 15 to 30 years of age at the start of employment;
Candidates must also have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
· Proven experience in creating digital marketing strategies and plans
· Experience in digital content development for websites and social media channels
· Experience with graphic design, photography and photo editing
· Storytelling and interviewing experience
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Excellent time management skills
· Strong attention to detail
· Experience working in a non-profit setting is an asset
