post is for 11 sessions per week. One of these 11 sessions per week is allocated to supporting professional activities (SPA). Based on educational needs, careers aspirations and progress, the post holder may have the opportunity to enrol onto the CESR Fellowship Programme in Emergency Medicine through which 3 months every year may be granted to give experience in other acute specialties like Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, ITU and Anaesthetics (the doctor will still be required to do night shifts and weekends in ED). This programme would enable the post holder to develop the competences required for CESR application to enter the Specialist Register.
The work pattern of all our Doctors has been recently revised to fit the rules and regulations of new deal contract for Junior Doctors. The rota comprises of a 21 weeks rolling rota with 1 in 3 weekends and includes out of hours and night shifts. The work pattern currently consists of 4 different shifts:
0800-1600, 1300-2200, 1600-0000 and 2200-0815 hrs. Clinical working hours will average around 40 hours per week across the period of the rota. The rota may be revised periodically as per the terms and conditions and the requirements of the department. The post holder may be asked to work extra hours in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances such as in the event of a major incident. The aim of this post is to improve the care of patients attending the Emergency Department and to enhance the supervision and support of junior medical staff.
