Mintec, the world-leading soft commodities and food raw materials price analytics company, is seeking an ambitious Softs Analyst to join its Commodity Insights Team. With over 35 years of experience serving Europe's largest and most well-respected companies, the Mintec Commodity Insights Team is looking for an analyst to join its expanding coverage and provide market prices, knowledge and commentary to the biggest names in international retail and food services. Mintec recently acquired AgriBriefing with its companies Urner Barry, Stratégie Grains, Feedinfo, and Tropical Research Services, which together form the world’s largest food-commodity Price Reporting Agency (PRA) and data provider.
The role:
Mintec is seeking an experienced and ambitious Soft Commodities Analyst to join our proprietary Commodity Insights Team, with particular focus on tropical softs such as coffee and cocoa. Ideally, you will come from an established Price Reporting Agency (PRA) or a soft commodities company with a familiarity in coffee and/or cocoa, and be experienced in working with price assessment methodologies, commodity specifications and IOSCO-compliant price reporting processes. You will need to be highly numerate with excellent analytical and communication skills and enjoy interaction with traders, producers and manufacturers in the agricultural commodity value chain. The Soft Commodities Pricing Analyst will be working closely with other members of the global Commodity Insights Team.
This position can be remote or based in one of our global offices.
Responsibilities:
- Expand Mintec’s position as the leading food-commodity PRA by covering and expanding Mintec’s offering in tropical softs such as coffee and cocoa
- Increase the number of price assessments and reports published by Mintec in the coffee and cocoa sectors.
- Build and grow the the number of industry contacts in the coffee and cocoa sectors who submit pricing data, using all means of communication including face-to-face meetings and networking.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals, supply chain and key participants for the coffee and cocoa commodity markets.
- Collect transactional pricing data, bids, offers, tenders and any other information that will be relevant to assess the Mintec Benchmark Prices in line with Mintec’s robust methodology, price specifications and IOSCO-compliant principles.
- Follow procedures to continue to build and maintain Mintec’s proprietary data.
- Write regular pricing rationales, reports and analytical pieces.
- Handle questions from contacts and the market about the dynamics of particular pricing, seeking guidance from your manager when inquiries are sensitive, to make our processes and judgement transparent to the market.
- Publishing new Mintec Benchmark Prices to the agreed schedule.
The ideal candidate should have:
· Experience working in commodities, preferably in agricultural commodities. Experience of the coffee and/or cocoa industry would be preferable but is not a must.
· A strong understanding of what impacts physical commodity prices, with experience in fundamentals analysis and report-writing, as well as a knowledge of incoterms, trade flows and value chains.
· Highly numerate with a keen eye for detail; very comfortable using MS Excel as well as performing various types of data analysis.
· Understanding of hedging and financial risk management of commodities.
· Experience of working independently, with a self-starter attitude that is well-served in growing and maintaining a network of industry contacts for market knowledge and price collection.
· Ability to present complex topics clearly and concisely to groups of any size.
· Willingness to travel when required.
