Job description
Safe Space Mental Health Support Worker
Sheffield
Full Time
£25,387 - £27,000 (dependent upon knowledge, training, and experience)
Ref - SSMH-02.23
Can you help us on our mission with giving young people the chance to gain independence and be the best version of themselves? If so, we would love to have you as part of our team!
About the role
Taking a person-centred approach, Roundabout’s Safe Space aims to engage young people (aged 16-17) in a therapeutic environment, for up to 72 hours, to enable de-escalation from distress, offer coping strategies and ensure ongoing support
You will be a passionate individual with experience of supporting young people with mental health issues. Staff in our team work 12 hour shifts with another team member, on a rota basis.
At Roundabout, young people are at the heart of what we do, and this new service will be flexible and responsive to the needs of young people accessing it.
You will:
De-escalate the crisis by creating an emotionally safe space (e.g. listen attentively, provide a distancing activity)
Provide Strategies by offering coping strategies for ongoing use (e.g. teach mindfulness, or link them to a support group)
Offer Acceptance by accepting the young person as they are (e.g. empathise with them, offer validation, actively listen and understand)
By working as part of our team, you’ll be making a difference to young people at a time when they need us most.
