Job description

We are seeking a motivated research nurse/coordinator at Band 6 level as a London south nervous systems network affiliated research nurse/coordinator as replacement post to work within the neuroscience division at KCH and the International Centre of Excellence in Parkinson’s care and research. The successful applicant will take up a post initially until end of March 2024 and work across several sub-specialities (mainly with the Parkinson’s Foundation international centre of excellence, neuro-degenerative disorders and potentially with other neurology departments) to help with research and clinical trial based studies that are listed in the Department of Heath national portfolio and within the remit of nervous systems disorders. The post holder will work under the supervision of Professor K Ray Chaudhuri, (clinical lead for Nervous systems sub-speciality, London South CRN and Director of R and I at KCH) and the management of Alexandra Rizos, Neuroscience Research Manager and EUROPAR European manager for studies and trials in Parkinson’s. The post holder might also be part of the neurosciences clinical trials unit, led by Mr. K. Ashkan (clinical lead for Neuro-oncology and Professor of Neurosurgery). Some experience in clinical research and knowledge of good clinical practice is required.

The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating an agreed portfolio of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials at King’s College Hospital, Clinical Neuroscience division. Responsibilities will include helping recruit patients to portfolio adopted non commercial and if required commercial studies, identifying patients through MDT’s/screening notes and increasing referrals through participating local hospitals; collecting data; interviewing; supporting and monitoring patients, applying clinical scales to patients in clinic and data entry. The post holder will also recruit patients to observational trials and be involved in follow up and completion of relevant trial specific paperwork which may include all administration, coordination and minute taking for the monthly divisional research advisory group (RAG) meeting.

The post holder will work closely with the Research Manager, London (South) LCRN Nervous Systems Lead, medical staff, the Clinical Nurse Specialist Teams, and the pharmacy technicians at King’s College Hospital.

This post might involve travel between hospitals based in South London (e. g. Princess Royal University Hospital) where site set up activities will be carried out and subsequent recruitment to clinical studies and trials. The post holder must be prepared to travel and must have a good knowledge of clinical trial site set up procedures.

The centre of excellence in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders at King’s College Hospital is one of the 14 international centres of excellence worldwide (http://parkinsons-london.co.uk/). The centre is led by Professor K Ray Chaudhuri who is also the lead for the London South Nervous systems sub-speciality group. The focus of work in relation to Parkinson’s disease is centred around non motor issues, a key unmet need as recognised by the Department of health (UK) as well as the NICE and is internationally recognised. The department also coordinates NIHR portfolio based studies (commercial and non-commercial) across all subsections of the nervous system such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and neuro-oncology.
