Virginia Neurosurgeons is a busy, well-established neurosurgical practice based in Arlington, VA since 2001. We have an immediate opening for a Surgical Coordinator / O.R. Scheduler for three neurosurgeons in the Northern Virginia / Metropolitan Washington, DC. area
Position:
The Surgical Scheduler acts as a liaison between the physician, patient, and hospital. They manage all logistical details for services, have direct contact with patients, obtain prior authorizations, and distribute the surgery paperwork via email, fax, and regular mail. The ideal candidate will be detailed-oriented with excellent computer, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities:
- Schedule elective and emergency surgical cases in conjunction with the hospital and with specialists on joint cases
- Discuss surgical procedures with patients
- Coordinate pre-operative clearance, lab tests, MRI, CT, etc.
- Discuss financial responsibility with patient
- Provide professional, friendly customer service at all times
- Verify eligibility & coverage for the procedure
- Insurance pre-authorization for surgeries, imaging, and pre-operative labs per insurance company preferences
- Discuss pre and post-operative instructions with patients
- Coordinate medical clearance paperwork from PCP and/or medical sub-specialists to ensure patients are safe to undergo surgery
- Responds timely to written and telephone inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and all other related parties involved
- Depending on your experience, other duties may be assigned
Requirements:
- Ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment
- 2+ years of Surgical Scheduling Experience -Spine experience a plus
- Dependable, Reliable, Excellent Work Attendance Record
- Ability to work independently
- Strong Communication Skills - (Verbal & Written)
- Knowledge of area health insurance plans
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding
- Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Calendar)
- Smartphone knowledge
