Job description

The research assistant is required to work (for one year initially, with annual renewals and maximum of two years) on an international study funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) as part of the Alzheimer's Biomarkers Consortium-Down Syndrome (ABC-DS; https://www.nia.nih.gov/research/abc-ds ). Adults with Down syndrome are at a very high risk of developing Alzheimer's disease at a relatively young age. ABC-DS is a USA-led NIH consortium that that aims to investigate the high risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) experienced by people with Down syndrome (DS). The study is cross-sectional and prospective. It seeks to identify cognitive and biological markers and track the progression of AD. The individual will be based at the Cambridge site and will have several responsibilities including, recruitment, enabling eligible participants to complete baseline and follow-up assessments (including neuropsychological testing) and administering regulatory requirements.

The successful applicant will be based at the Cambridge Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Group in the Department of Psychiatry, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge (http://www.psychiatry.cam.ac.uk/ciddrg), and will be part of the Down's syndrome research group with our other collaborators (such as the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (WBIC; http://www.wbic.cam.ac.uk).

Applicants should possess at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) in neuroscience, psychology or a related subject, have a strong and proven interest in neuroscience and ideally have some experience/knowledge of health services and working with people with intellectual (learning) disabilities. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills as it involves liaising with hospital and community-based health professionals, family and paid carers, and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the UK. To further support research skills development, the University also offers a comprehensive programme of research training to its research staff.

Interviews will take place shortly after the short-listing and the post is available to commence immediately.

Limit of tenure: 1 year with possibility of renewal for up to 2 years.

This appointment also requires a Research Passport application.
