Job description

You will be an enthusiastic, motivated, highly organised Research Assistant, possessing knowledge and practical experience in clinical research with an ability to produce work at a high standard. The post will involve collaboration with several other research groups including Professor Chris Buckley, Professor Graham Ogg, Professor Freddie Hamdy. The postholder will work as part of the team to support this important collaborative project integrating sample collection and preparation.
The project involves research with clinical samples, cellular immunology including flow cytometry, and sterile cell culture, as well as molecular biology - in particular in relation to single cell gene expression library preparation.
Applicants should have an interest in human translational research. A degree in biology/immunology/genetics or related sciences together with a desire to undertake cutting-edge scientific research will be an advantage. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently are also critical capabilities for this post. The ability to meticulously follow detailed protocols is essential to success.
Previous laboratory experience is essential. The key aspect of the post will be the processing of samples obtained from human donors for single cell gene expression studies, with a focus on preparing sequencing libraries. You will also be responsible for monitoring supplies of reagents, maintenance of equipment and warrant safety compliance to ensure smooth running of the shared TGU laboratory and therefore basic knowledge in Health & Safety is highly desirable. Previous experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, flow cytometry analysis software and/or statistical programs such as Prism, alongside experience using a high-level programming language (Python, R) and/or appropriate scripting languages are desired attributes for this role.
