In this exciting role you will be accountable for Virgin Atlantic Cargo’s operational delivery for the UK Region. Ensuring operational excellence by developing and implementing processes and procedures that deliver the operational aspect of our product, whilst adhering to all regulatory standards in terms of safety, security, and technical compliance.
You'll also be responsible for negotiation and agreement of contractual and commercial terms of all sub-contracted suppliers as well as ensuring adherence and accountability to their contractual obligations.


Day to day

  • The go to for reference and contact across the Virgin Atlantic for the delivery of the day’s UK Cargo Operation.

  • Responding and implementing next steps relating to operational issues relating to safe and secure and timely departure of cargo and flights.

  • Prioritise the day’s workload ensuring we meet the operational deadlines and achieve the optimum commercial results.

  • Direct and influence key suppliers’ activities during the day ensuring those customers are clear on day-by-day priorities and operational needs.

  • Make sound operational decisions at short notice, taking into consideration commercial issues, security, safety, customer service, long and short-term impact.

  • To coordinate and supervise with all relevant parties the smooth handling of cargo by third party handling companies, dealing with any discrepancies or problems that might arise optimally and efficiently.

  • Identify key service delivery issues through trend analysis, managing resolution with counterparts in the supplier and Virgin Atlantic

  • Provide recommendations to the Cargo Operations Management group relating to process improvement and efficiency.

  • Maximise each flight to capacity through effective management

  • Ensure documentation and computer inputs are completed and processed efficiently and accurately and in accordance with the Service Level and Ground Handling Agreements in place.

  • Ensure all VAA corporate safety and security processes and procedures are adhered to by all staff. Meeting and Exceeding the regulatory standards and provide an outstanding customer experience.

  • Accountable for ensuring all aspects of operational activity for the region adheres to the appropriate security regulatory standards

  • Work collaboratively with members of the CAA, and those within Virgin Atlantic’s Security

  • Lead, empower, engage and co-ordinate all areas of the operation on the day, both in-source and outsource.

  • Own the operational calls and briefings with internal and external partners.

  • Lead and advise the procurement process for operational contractual expenditure, in association with VAA procurement.


About you

Are you an excellent team leader within an operational environment? Do you have a proven track record in operations in the field of airfreight or logistics with a thorough knowledge of Customs regulations and documentation requirements? Then this could be the role for you!

  • Experience of working within a fast paced, changing environment, with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize and balancing several tasks at any one time
  • The ability to quickly build excellent relationships at all levels
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written, with the ability to influence.
  • Ability to present relevant business information to a variety of audiences.
  • Balance the needs of the individual, operational and commercial requirements.
  • Good understanding of commercial requirements, cargo invoice/billing processes, alongside knowledge of Cargo Management Systems
