Job description
We’re Anthony Nolan and we save the lives of people with blood cancer who need a stem cell transplant.
We’re unique. Thanks to the incredible donors on our register, our pioneering research and our passionate fundraisers, we give the chance of life to three people a day.
But we won’t stop there. We want to be there for everyone who needs a transplant; from finding a match, through every step of a patient’s transplant journey. And together we can reach the remarkable day when we can save the lives of everyone with blood cancer.
And now we want you to join our lifesaving team. We are looking for a Medical Officer to join our Operations & Patient Services division.
Title: Medical Officer / MD (Res) or Masters degree
Salary: £47,703 per annum
Contract: 2-4 year fixed term depending on time required for research degree
Hours: 35 per week (standard Anthony Nolan working hours)
Location: Hybrid between home and head office in Hampstead, London
We are looking for a trainee Haematologist with an interest in Stem Cell Transplantation to join our prestigious Clinical Research and Operations teams.
This is a split post undertaking either a Masters degree at University College London, or an MD(Res) degree in the field of haematopoietic cell transplantation whilst working part time as a Medical Officer at Anthony Nolan. Both components of the post will be undertaken at Anthony Nolan, with an expectation of attending Head Office in Hampstead, London one day per week.
The successful candidate will be a Haematology Trainee at the level of a Specialist Registrar (ST4 or above) or will have recently completed Haematology training. The Medical Officer component of the post involves providing medical support to unrelated haematopoietic cell donors, including the cord blood bank, and advising non-medical Anthony Nolan staff on clinical matters. The Medical Officer will also contribute to and update the Anthony Nolan medical guidelines and policies and will attend medical affairs meetings.
An interest in Stem Cell Transplantation is essential, but prior experience in the management of Stem Cell Donors is not required. The Medical Officer component of the post is usually performed on a rotational basis with two other Medical Officers, with support from a Clinical Nurse Specialist, and supervision by the Donor Consultant.
The MD(Res) degree must focus on the field of Stem Cell Transplantation or Haematopoietic Donor Health, in line with the Anthony Nolan Research strategy. However, due to the part-time nature of the post, heavily laboratory-based projects would not be suitable. For those preferring a Masters degree, an MRes or other MSC offered by UCL, you should be in a healthcare field applicable to the work of Anthony Nolan and stem cell transplantation. Candidates are encouraged to discuss potential areas of research prior to application, and applications from candidates wishing to collaborate with other centres are also welcome.
You will have the ability to listen, learn and improve within the role, learn from mistakes and speak up when opportunities to improve are identified. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. All applicants must have GMC registration.
We would encourage potential applicants to arrange a discussion with the hiring team in advance of submitting their details. Contact details below:
