Manufacturing engineer
Starting Salary: £40,000
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Reports to: Operations Director
Location: Trafford Park - with free on-site parking available

Main Purpose of the Job
We are seeking a proficient and highly motivated manufacturing engineer to take real ownership of our machine maintenance. The right candidate will have a thorough understanding of the production environment and is comfortable thinking, and working. We have invested heavily to ensure we have the right machines to fulfil our customers' varying demands, so you will need to demonstrate real pride in what you do.
Responsibilities of the manufacturing engineer:
- Work to dynamic KPI’s and be influential in the drive for Continuous Improvement
- To be the front-line contact for all engineering resources and be on hand to provide engineering solutions to all aspects of the company.
- To create, issue, monitor and review a maintenance schedule in line with equipment manufacturers guidelines and in-house knowledge of weaknesses.
- Employees are trained to carry out the requirements set out in the TPM schedule.
- Schedule is visible and maintained with clear status vs schedule.
- Working closely with our main partners to ensure a close and productive relationship
- Ensure the internal KPIs are hit as result of the work with the rest of the Operations team
- Build & progress relationships with suppliers to ensure we get the best service from them when needed, but also strive to be in a state of non-reliance.
- Work within a maintenance budget and deploy root cause problem solving techniques to reduce costs. You will also ideally be comfortable controlling and negotiating cost discrepancies with suppliers and contractors.
Requirements of the manufacturing engineer:
- Minimum of 3 years of UK Manufacturing Engineering experience, post education.
- Relevant electrical and/or mechanical engineering education, preferably to degree level but also looking for the right person with the right background and aptitude.
- Demonstrate a logical problem-solving mindset
- Strong manufacturing background (preferably in a fast-moving made-to-order business)
- TPM within manufacturing environment
- Has a good understanding of software and technology engineering practices
- Strong influencing and decision-making skills
- Effective communicator
- Work on own initiative, and be a self-starter
- Team player and team builder
- Actively changes their approach depending on how big or complex the project is
Skills and Knowledge
- Minimum of IOSHH trained
- Experience working in a similar role, ideally with complex electro-mechanical products
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, and how, and when to use them
- Lean manufacturing (practitioner)
- Able to demonstrate significant cost savings as a result of efficiency savings.
- Creative thinker and problem solver
- Numerate with great understanding of business finance
- Computer literate: knowledge of Microsoft office suite and process mapping software
