Here at Serco, we are seeking a Management Accountant who will be responsible for managing our Prison and Immigration centre trust accounts, ensuring prisoner’s and detainee’s personal monies are controlled, managed, and accurately accounted for. As well as full financial responsibility for the trust’s, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of stakeholders to implement improvements to current processes and controls. You will be responsible for providing timely and accurate financial and management information across the 7 trust accounts that Serco manages across its UK sites.
Initially, as this is an area with the potential for lots of added value, you will need to quickly understand the as-is trust models. This will involve multiple stakeholder engagement to map the current process, document roles and responsibilities and assess the current control environments.
Once the existing landscape is fully understood you will lead the implementation of key improvements including but not limited to increased automation, process standardisation, better defined and understood roles and responsibilities and implementation of a more robust control environment.
You will ultimately be responsible for:
Accurate accounting and reporting of all Trust activity and balances to contract/finance leadership and our government customers
Working closely with our shared service centre Assistant Finance Business Partners and local prisoner/detainee finance teams to oversee Trust accounting on an ongoing basis
Support any contract mobilisations or exits with the establishment or closing of Trust accounts
Liaising with external customers where appropriate to approve spend and provide insightful reporting
Ownership of the Trust bank accounts managing the relationship with the Serco Treasury team
What you’ll need to do the role:
You will need to be working towards or possess a professional qualification with a recognised accounting body along with relevant experience in finance teams (we are able to offer study support to CIMA/ACCA qualification)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and a knowledge of SAP
Evidence of ability to influence, listen to and resolve conflicts with key decision makers
Ability to highlight problems, offer innovative and practical solutions, and drive through their execution. Not afraid of getting into the detail if required
Evidence of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Evidence of building trust with a team, allowing direct conversations and not sanitising messages
Adaptable, energetic and a continuous learner.
