Primary Purpose

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of the position is to assist the public in using all library facilities and services, to circulate library materials, assist people of all ages in locating materials and information, and perform other general library tasks, as required. Description of Responsibilities and Duties

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Provides excellent customer service to library users.
Circulates library materials.
Empties book drop.
Assists customers with research and location of materials and information using electronic and print resources.
Processes books into circulation, including shelving and straightening of materials.
Registers new customers; renews lending cards, resolves account issues, and accepts fines and fees.
Assists the public in using computers, personal technology devices, copiers, scanners, faxes, and the library's online resources.
Provides branch library coverage, as needed.
Assists library staff with programs, as needed.
Helps to maintain a welcoming friendly environment in the library.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education: Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires six months of clerical and/or public service experience, including customer service experience.
Weekend and evening hours are required, and the candidate is required to have a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must be at least 18 years of age.
This position is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is a part-time position with an average of 14-17 hours per week. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Special Requirements - Applicant must have the ability to serve library patrons by effectively attending to their requests and exchanging information with a can-do attitude and in a positive manner. This position requires performing semi-routine work with set procedures, but the applicant must have the ability to work independently and solve problems.
This position also requires the ability to perform routine clerical tasks prescribed by standard practices, the ability to follow procedures, policies, and processes, and requires the ability to produce accurate results. This position requires the skills to operate standard computer equipment, related hardware, and software. Applicant must have excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to produce written documents that are accurate, concise, and complete. Knowledge of public library services and technologies is essential. Punctuality, flexibility, and dependability are essential.
Physical Requirements
Requires excess of sedentary work that involves walking or standing most of the time, bending, kneeling, twisting, and involves exerting 10 pounds and up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
Applicants must submit official college transcripts (if applicable). Applicants must have NC Drivers License and access to a vehicle. The applicant must have a clean driving record with no more than three (3) points showing on current DMV record.
