About BigSis
BigSis (http://bigsis.tech), a UK start-up, is pioneering a chemical-free solution to agricultural insect pests. BigSis has recently launched its first solution, which helps farmers control spotted wing drosophila (SWD), a highly destructive pest of soft fruit crops, such as strawberries and blackberries. This role involves helping the team to monitor field sites for the presence of SWD .
Location: Coxheath, near Maidstone, Kent
Salary: £21,000 - 23,000 per year + holiday + pension, fixed-term contract for 6 months
Full time (37.5 hours per week), Mon-Fri, 8am start, May until October.
You will visit the farm sites at least once a week to collect fruit samples and swap traps. You will be responsible for processing fruit samples and assessing the traps in our lab near Coxheath, Kent.
Responsibilities will include:
- Travelling to farm sites to collect fruit samples and exchange traps weekly
- Processing and analysing fruit and trap samples
- Inputting data onto specific spreadsheets
- Keeping all areas clean and tidy
- Other laboratory and administrative tasks as required
Qualifications and experience
- Since full training is provided, no experience is required, but a background in entomology and/or previous work on field trials would be advantageous
- You must be able to follow processes accurately while observing all safety and hygiene rules
- This job involves working with live insects
