Main Purpose
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Environmental Program Managers at the 48th Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
For this role you will serve as the Natural and Cultural Resources Program Manager within its Environmental Element. You will promote mission readiness by ensuring compliance with environmental policy and regulations which in-turn promotes human health & safety and protects natural resources. The Environmental Element provides in-house compliance, advisory, training and awareness across a range of program areas including storage tank management, hazardous waste management, toxic substances, project planning, and Environmental Management System.
In the position, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise to manage assigned programs through application of professional knowledge and skills in environmental practices, processes, and techniques. The duties will include executing assigned projects, in house and by contract, to comply with all Air Force environmental regulations, standards, and procedures, and in accordance with U.S. and UK laws. Provide high standard of quality assurance/quality control through review of contractor deliverables. Promote RAF Lakenheath’s environmental awareness program by offering training on assigned programs. You will also be responsible for providing advisory services on questions, issues, and projects in assigned program areas as well as complying with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures in the performance of your duties.

Knowledge and Experience Required
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, community planning, social science, physical science, biological science, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR a combination of education and experience in a related discipline.
- Knowledge of professional environmental principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively perform project development, execution, training, and advisory services in assigned projects.
- Knowledge to troubleshoot environmental problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned projects.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly and accurately to a wide audience, other including non-specialists.
- Skill to integrate an interdisciplinary team of professionals to include attorneys, public health specialist, public affairs specialist, biological scientists, environmental engineers, physical scientists, general engineers, community planners, regulators, other governmental officials, and community groups.
- Knowledge of applicable U.S. Federal and UK laws, regulations, integration principles and practices, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention projects is desired.
- Experience of contributing to environmental impact assessments, knowledge of the UK contaminated land regime and materials management plans, and knowledge of asbestos are desirable but not essential.
Other Important Information
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- An appropriate UK driver’s license, Category B, is required for this position.
- May be required to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Force during exercises or in the event of an actual emergency.
- Employee is required to complete any training or certifications deemed necessary by management to successfully perform the functions of this position.
- Use of special safety precautions such as protective clothing and gear are necessary and must be worn as required.
- Employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate UK security clearance.
- Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
- Position may be coded as mission essential.
