Job description
The post holder will be responsible for providing both nursing and administration support to the nursing and medical teams in The Early Pregnancy and Fertility Clinics to ensure they run smoothly. This role includes phlebotomy and supporting women and their partners/supporters that attend the clinic.

- Provide clerical support for clinics which includes, note preparation, tracering notes, photocopying, taking phone calls, booking appointments, recording clinic outcomes

- Perform routine observations and have knowledge of their relevance, knowing when to report to the nurse/midwife-in-charge
You will work within a very committed team. The Nurses/ Midwives are all extremely passionate about providing excellent care to the women that use the service.
The department is very busy seeing women with problems in the early pregnancy or with their fertility. Although the post is based in early pregnancy and Fertility, the role occasionally requires working in the Gynaecology Clinic.
Detailed job description and responsibilities
Planning and organisation
- Ensure patients attending for blood tests are seen in a timely manner
- To have an awareness of routine tests and examinations that the nursing/medical staff will perform and ensure the treatment room is prepared with all relevant equipment required
- Maintain stock levels of equipment
- Discuss any concerns about a patient to the Nurse/Midwife-in-charge
- Awareness of own limitations
- Telephoning women with appointments
- Contribute to effective team working
- Communicate with women and their partners/supporters who access our service, this can be highly emotive as they may have received bad news
- Provide written and verbal communication to share with the team about the care you provide
- Receive telephone calls from GP’s, Midwives and other health care providers, ensuring accurate message taking
- Ensure confidentiality of patients at all times
- Document all care in the patients notes
- Identify your learning needs and participate in your annual achievement review
- To assist in maintaining high standards and quality nursing care within the department
- To support women and their partners/supporters during their visit showing an awareness of their emotional, physical and social needs
- To perform routine observations and have knowledge of their relevance, knowing when to report the results to the Nurse/Midwife-in-charge
- To perform venepuncture (following training if required)
- Assist nursing/medical staff, as required, and support patients during treatments or investigations
- Offer support to distressed women and their partners/supporters daily
- Ensure the privacy and dignity of the women at all times
- Work within the Trusts policies and procedures
- Knowledge of emergency procedures i.e. fire, cardiac arrest, patient collapse
- Attend mandatory training as required by the Trust, identify your learning needs and discuss with your manager
- No budgetary control but awareness of effective use of resources
- Maintain stock levels of patient information sheets and other paperwork required to enable the clinics to run effectively
- Report any issues with supplies to the Nurse/Midwife-in-charge
- Request notes from medical records, tracer notes
- Input data on PAS including telephone appointments, booking appointments and change of appointments
- Photocopying
- Assist the Nurses in infection control and environmental audit
