Because of exciting new plans in the works for 2023 Homebase are recruiting across multiple teams, including our commercial team! As such we're seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join us on a permanent basis as soon as possible!

Working hours: 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday (8 am - 4 pm OR 9 am - 5 pm). Should you require flexible working arrangements, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate these where possible!

Location: We operate a hybrid working policy which means that you decide what works best for you! If that means working from home, then work from home. If you prefer to work in an office then you're welcome to work from the office. For this particular role, you will need to work from our Milton Keynes, Store Support Centre for 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). This may increase to 3/4 days per week for short periods in the run-up to our peak seasons.

Salary: £48000 - £58000 (including car allowance) plus bonus

Job Role Purpose:

The Health and Safety Manager is the primary lead for health and safety across the business. Leading a team of three health and safety advisors and an admin assistant, the role sets the health and safety agenda and provides the tools and resources to achieve this.

Key Responsibilities (Day to day duties):

  • Custodian of the HomeSafe health and safety management system including policies and procedures, resources and tools.
  • Manage the business health and safety risk register and risk management requirements such as operational risk assessments, COSHH assessments etc.
  • Provide the business with health and safety legislation updates.
  • Leading the health and safety team.
  • Providing strategic support, advice and guidance to the business leadership teams.
  • Actively developing relationships with internal and external key stakeholders to drive a positive health and safety culture.
  • Producing reports and insights into emerging trends and risks to ensure the health and safety strategy is aligned to the business needs.
  • Driving an open and honest incident reporting culture.
  • Managing the injury management procedure and leading on insurance claim management.

Key Requirements:

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) – desirable
  • Relevant professional membership (IOSH/ IIRSM)
  • Experience of leading the health and safety agenda in a fast paced retail environment.
  • Experience of leading a health and safety team.
  • Experience in the development of health and safety strategies, management systems and controls.
  • Demonstrable experience of positively influencing the safety culture.
  • A good understanding of UK and ROI health and safety legislation.
