Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Electrical or Control & Automation Designer to be based in our Dorking (preferred), Culham or London office, in United Kingdom to join the project team involved in developing a commercially-viable fusion power plant for clean, safe and sustainable future.
The Electrical or Control & Automation Designer will be part of a team of designers and assisting in the development and production of deliverables required for Energy and Oil and Gas projects from Feasibility studies to Detail design. The Electrical or Control & Automation Designer will also collaborate in the resolution of technical design issues and mentor other designers in the team.
Responsibilities:
Report to the lead engineer, project or engineering manager- Review, or check the designs performed by others in the design team.
- Prioritize project or program discipline actions for the purpose of achieving deliverable quality and adherence to schedule.
- Prepare design drawings for internal and client reviews in collaboration with engineering team.
- Produce detailed engineering design drawings and documentation for approved concepts/projects.
- Perform 3D model clash detection and coordinate electrical or control and automation design with other disciplines.
- Assist in the preparation of project specific procedures (symbols, cell libraries, borders etc).
- Perform plant layout and electrical/automation systems using 3D design modeling tools.
- Prepare quantity estimation on project or program including direct quantity (MTO) take-off from a 3D model, 2D drawings, sketches and historical data.
- Verify on-site condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities.
- Apply industry best practices and applicable codes and standards (BC, IEEE, etc.).

If electrical focused:
- Assist with voltage drop, cable fill, underground duct calculations.
- Develop 3D model for electrical equipment, underground ducts and cable trays.

If automation focused:
- Assist with the development of IO list, cable block diagrams, P&IDs, and panel layouts.
- Ability to develop P&IDs using intelligent software.
Qualifications and Skills:
Electrical engineering diploma or Automation engineering diploma from a recognized college in UK- Minimum of five years electrical or automation design experience
- Experience within a large-projects such as power, petrochemical and refinery industries, in multi-disciplinary EPCM environment.
- Ability to design in a 3D environment
- Knowledge of industry or UK regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
- Understanding of other discipline requirements
- Sound knowledge of designing electrical/automation systems and workflows for these respective systems.
- Proficient in the use of MicroStation or AutoCAD, MicroStation PSDS and/or OpenPlant.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Site experience in walk-downs, field measurements and commissioning are an asset.
Preferred
Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist or looking to attain certification- Experience with Bentley BRCM (Electrical) or OpenPlant P&ID (Automation)
- Strong client focus.
- Experience in mentoring and supervising designers.
- Ability to delegate tasks and promote the effective performance of team members.
