Job description
The UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center is an integrated collaboration of scientific, academic and medical professionals committed to revolutionizing the treatment of disease through personalized cellular therapies and regenerative medicine. Our more than 240 faculty members represent UCLA's professional schools (Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, etc.) as well as the College of Letters and Sciences. The Center's activities involve collaborations across UCLA, as well as throughout the state, country and globe. Our work encompasses all three pillars of the University's education, research and service mission.
Reporting to the Center's Director of Communications, Marketing, Education and Outreach, the Communications and Media Relations Manager is a key contributor to the development and implementation of a broad range of strategic communications, media relations and outreach initiatives.
A primary objective of this position is to drive the growth and success of the Center by elevating its reputation both internally and externally. This will be accomplished through strategic media relations, social media, internal communications, outreach and multimedia storytelling that sparks curiosity and builds trust.
The center's communications program strives to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging multimedia content that clearly demonstrates why this work matters for society. Doing this successfully requires a deep commitment to learning and the ability to contextualize research in a timely and/or culturally relevant fashion. In addition to drafting, editing, pitching and otherwise distributing content, this position collaborates with the Director to train scientists at all levels to be more effective communicators and to educate the public about the rapidly evolving field of stem cell research.
This position is highly collaborative and works closely with Center members, patients and trainees, communications and marketing officers from across UCLA, as well as advocacy groups, academic and industry partners and funding agencies.
