Job description
As a care assistant at Safer Staffing Solutions, your responsibilities will vary as the nature of the role calls for it. You will also be working alongside other carers to assist in their daily duties. However these will mostly consist of the following:
Personal care: Assist with personal hygiene, washing, assistance with using the toilet, assistance with incontinence including pads, commodes and catheter bags.
Support with eating and drinking: Ensuring that clients are encouraged to eat a health, balanced diet and correct quantities, meals look and are appetising. Also making sure the way they eat is appropriate for the client.
Shopping Assistance: This is completed on the client's request and finance form which must be completed with a receipt.
Mobility Assistance: Use of a hoist or other aides, or assistance with standing / movement. Also dressing or assisting with any physical activity whereby the client needs support.
Domestic Duties: Cleaning, emptying bins, washing where requested .
Record Keeping: MAR chart (for medication), log book (recording each visit to communicate to the next carer), and care plan updates.
Please Note: It is very important to note that each client has a person-centred care plan. This will contain everything the client needs and will also outline their individual preferences, likes, dislikes and requirements. This is a live document and will need to be kept updated to ensure that the care and support provided is appropriate and MUST be followed stringently.
Medication Assistance: Completing the MAR chart (Medical Administration Record) . The administration of medication as outlined in the care plan and with client consent.
Promote Independence: To allow the client to do as much for themselves as they can and to only offer support when they need it.
Maintain Professional Relationships: Clients can only be visited on duty and the carer must be wearing full uniform, with ID and PPE (personal protective equipment). A carer MUST not accept any gratuities from the client.
Work with Empathy, Honesty and Integrity
Safeguarding: Protect the client from any significant harm.
In addition to physical and medical assistance, you will also need to show care for the client by interacting with them and listening to them in a friendly way. Be respectful, empathetic and communicative with the client.
QUALIFICATIONS:
In the majority of cases there won't be any requirements to have academic qualifications like GCSE's, A-Levels or degrees. However, most employers would prefer you to have some First Aid skills and an NVQ in Health and Social Care, Levels 2 and/or 3 but NOT essential
Also having a valid driving licence is beneficial but not mandatory.
A DBS check is required for all roles in the company.
