Job description
We are looking to recruit an Assistant or Associate Performance Director to work on our outdoor events. This is a key role in the production, taking responsibility for significant areas of the performance under the supervision of the Performance Director. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator with a sound understanding of the industry/immersive theatre/experiences.
There is the potential for this role to be extended through the run as Resident Director, depending on the candidate’s suitability and availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Performance Director during rehearsals to deliver the performance plan, providing feedback notes to cast, and providing general assistance to the Performance Director as required.
- Hold a bank of knowledge around the project, confidently representing and answering questions about the show creative.
- Run rehearsals as and when required, guiding and shaping the performance based on the show creative as set by the Creative Director.
- Lead understudy rehearsals.
- Attend all rehearsals, previews, and relevant notes days, ensuring that good timekeeping is maintained throughout.
- Work with the Costume Designer, Hair and Makeup Designer, Stage Management Team and other members of the production team to ensure that all elements work together and are effectively communicated.
- Work closely with the production and safety teams to ensure that the performance minimises risks during rehearsal and show run for performers, show crew, and audience.
- Attendance, subject to your reasonable availability, all appropriate meetings with other members for the artistic, production and management teams.
- To keep detailed records of all performance plans, character tracks, choreography, and fight choreography, and provide them in a detailed handover to Secret Group Ltd.
- Support the global HODs with potential casting sessions and character info packs for all global teams.
- Work closely with the global HODs to deliver training on a specified date prior to the show opening, sharing a tool kit to support staff members to perform their operational duties in character.
- Attend any press or publicity calls as required.
- Aid the Community Team whenever required.
- To participate in the Secret Group Ltd debrief processes by submitting a written debrief and, if required by the producer, attending a debrief meeting.
About you
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Collaborative and a clear communicator in both written and spoken word
- Confident public speaker with experience of leading groups of 50+
- Detail-oriented researcher
- Previous professional experience working in 'non-traditional' theatre such as immersive, interactive, large scale outdoor or promenade
- Demonstrated experience in direction and/or devising work
- Demonstrated experience in supervising the work of other people
