The Rotary Centre for the Arts is a key cultural facility in Kelowna. Situated on the unceded territories of the Syilx/Okanagan People, it is operated by the Kelowna Visual and Performing Arts Centre Society. This position aims to provides excellent instruction to teens interested in developing street dance skills. It requires the instructor to make their own lesson plan that is can be taught to skill level. This position reports to the Youth Program Coordinator and will be hired on a temporary contract.
The Rotary Centre for the Arts (RCA) is seeking an instructor with teaching experience that is interested in working with teens and is an experienced street dancer. This hire will deliver instruction for up to 8 weeks during the summer to teens and adults ages 13+. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator and Youth Program Coordinator this instructor will be tasked with planning and delivering applicable street dance skills. The content and instruction should be designed so that the material is relevant to teens with a wide range of experience and ability. The outcome of this position is for the instructor to gain experience planning, developing, and delivering helpful instruction that should engaging and enjoyable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates with a dance background who specialize in street dance or hip-hop.
- Experience working with youth.
Specific responsibilities include:
Design a 6-8 week drop-in model class (90 minutes each day).
Teaching a variety of techniques that can build foundational skills in hip hop, breaking, popping, locking, etc.
Providing one-on-one support as needed.
Create a positive and encouraging.
Dates: Weekly between July 10 – August 31 (all days or some days are acceptable.)
Hours: 5:30 pm – 7 pm
Compensation: $20/hour
