Archives & Local Studies Assistant (Maternity Cover)
Location: Somerset Heritage Centre, Brunel Way, Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton TA2 6SF
Hours: 22.2 hours per week, usual working days will be Tuesday-Thursday. Includes occasional Saturday morning work.
Salary: £21,029 per annum, paid on a pro rata basis
Contract: 10 month fixed-term contract
We are looking for a part-time Archives & Local Studies Assistant to be based at the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton. You will work as part of a team providing advice to the public on the use of archival sources, overseeing the public searchroom, answering enquiries, and retrieving archives from their storage for use by the public. You will also have the opportunity to assist with the care of archive collections including accessioning and cataloguing, packaging and boxing, and updating the collections management database. This role will provide suitable experience for someone wishing to pursue a career in archives.
You will need excellent customer care skills and a willingness to learn about the major archival sources held by the Trust. Occasional travel to other sites managed by the Trust may be required.
The South West Heritage Trust is an independent charity which provides heritage services across Somerset and Devon. We run two Archives and Local Studies services and three museums, including the Museum of Somerset, and look after Somerset’s historic environment, including over 400 acres of historic landscapes.
