The role
As a Project Manager you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Working where your knowledge and drive is really needed to make a difference, an exciting New Project with international exposure.
The purpose of this role is to project manage mobilisation activities and operational delivery outputs. The role supports the business by providing ownership on a known delivery output and management of stakeholders in order for the business to deliver the required output.
The project manager will also be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks, resolving conflicts and communicating project status to all stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving project success and contributing to the overall success of the team.
Main tasks
- Manage projects and complex delivery programmes that span one or multiple lines of business or functional areas, ensuring adherence to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and delivery completion dates
- Provide leadership for project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones
- Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full delivery from initiation to delivery for complex & major initiatives simultaneously
- Manage risks and issues, leading the project team to deliver mitigating actions, utilising RAID log documentation templates
- Report on project metrics and progress on a weekly and monthly basis
- Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence
- Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organisation
- Produce and maintain project plans and other associated governance documentation for all phases of the project
- Identify and acquire adequate resources to achieve project objectives in planned timeframes
- Manage the day-to-day project activities and resources
- Chair progress meetings for project and any other project governance review as required
- Monitor staff performance and feed into performance reviews
- Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across leadership
- Understand interdependencies between engineering, material, operations and business needs etc.
- Demonstrate a functional and technical acumen to support how solutions will address customer goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices
- Manage customer relationships on behalf of the project, working to identify Authority dependencies, reporting on progress and clarifying the project’s scope where necessary
- Manage project scope and changes through established governance processes
- Manage ongoing quality control and participate in quality issue resolution
- Assist in dispute resolution or negotiation as needed to ensure successful delivery
- Set and continually manage project team expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders
- Monitor, track and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables
- Deliver appropriate and effective senior level communication
- Extensive understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques
- Other duties as assigned
Essential experience and Qualifications for the Project Manager
Qualifications
- Educated to Level 5 in National Qualification Framework (NQF) as a minimum (foundation degree, Level 5 NVQ, high national diploma (HND)) or equivalent workplace experience
- Completed project management methodology qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2)
Experience
- Excellent planning, co-ordination and organisation skills
- Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including the ability to lead up, across and down multiple business and operational functions in the organisation
- Strong commercial awareness and customer relationship management skills
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence
- Build and maintain relationships by engaging functional leaders to establish credibility, solve problems, build consensus and achieve objectives.
- Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands
- Research best practices within and outside the organisation to establish benchmark data and use continuous process improvement disciplines to achieve results
- Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team(s) supported with strong influencing skills
Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe
