Position: Winery Technician
Reports to: Winemakers
Purpose
An exciting full-time opportunity to join the winemaking team at Hattingley Valley, producers of the finest English sparkling wines. Hattingley Valley is looking for a motivated, capable, enthusiastic, and organised individual to join its rapidly growing business in a junior cellar role, by providing benchmark work in the wine cellar across a range of operations and responsibilities. This role will require ability to work to a high standard both as a valued teammate and as a skilled independent worker and will allow the candidate to obtain wide-ranging skills and hands-on experience in wine production.
The Candidate
This role suits a candidate with a fluids handling background, a food and beverage handling background, or someone who is looking to enter and evolve within the growing English wine industry. The winery location would suit a candidate living in the Alton/Winchester/Basingstoke area.
Major Responsibilities
- Making key winery operations happen – from wine operations to cleaning operations.
- Being a key winery cellar team member during pressing, additions, blending, filtering, bottling, riddling and disgorging operations.
- Using cellar experience to guide temporary staff at harvest.
- Maintaining an impeccably high standard of cleanliness and organisation within the winery.
- Assisting the Production & Warehouse team to disgorge, label and prepare wines for storage and collection at essential times of the year.
- Assisting with marketing events and promotional activities may be required.
- Long hours are a pre-requisite at harvest (October) and at bottling.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical experience with machinery preferred but not essential.
- Fluids handling experience also preferred but not essential.
- Food and beverage handling experience also preferred but not essential.
- Mechanical ability and background an advantage.
- Forklift Licence preferred; being prepared to undertake Forklift training essential.
- Full Clean UK Driving Licence.
- Ability to lift 25kgs, climb ladders and stand for long periods essential.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Training: Training will be available where necessary to do some parts of the job. Eligible additional professional development offered after one year of service is completed satisfactorily.
Hours: 37.5 hours Monday to Friday 8.30 to 4.30 (30 minutes for lunch) – with additional hours as required during harvest and bottling periods.

Salary will depend on experience and skills. This is a full-time permanent role based in Hampshire.
