At London City Airport The Watch Room Control Role is a unique and dynamic one. The working environment within the Fire Station can change in an instant from the routine and relaxed atmosphere to dealing with a full-on emergency. Such situations involve processing numerous numbers of calls, large scale mobilising of resources, working with partners and other organisations and supporting the organisational structure of the incident.

Working together as a team to support each other at such times, and all the while learning transferable skills that you'll keep for life.

Main Purpose of the Role:

As Watch Room Controller you will monitor the fire alerting system panel activating the Airport Rescue & Firefighting Service response as required. Provide effective and centralised communications for the ARFFS during normal and emergency operations, maintaining station logs and provide additional support for the Watch Manager as required.

Main Tasks of the Role:

  • Responsible, accountable person for initiating the Emergency Response for the Airport following either a Fire Alarm Activation or, on receiving a call from Air Traffic Control, via the Crash Phone. This could include, aircraft related incidents, medical emergencies, ground incident (Fuel Spillage).
  • Domestic Incidents (Issues with equipment on the Ramp) /Non aircraft related incidents in water – that require an immediate response from the ARFFS.
  • You will be the sole responsible person to ensure the correct process is followed for the above incidents and that the correct level of emergency response is achieved.
  • Triage all Medical calls received. Liaising with the OIC as a landside response would lead to our Fire category being downgraded.
  • Notify all relevant external Emergency Agencies in an Emergency including the LFB, LAS LHR
  • Complete Training with our External Security Company on how to receive an emergency call and fill out the correct documents.
  • Assist with Fire Alarm Testing with PHF Fire and the Crews and Fire Zones Drills
  • Sending weather reports during the evening– being in contact with Contractors if we believe the weather will affect their works during Out- of- hours.
  • The contact for the fire monitoring company for our Landside Building ( fire alarms activations)


Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Dealing with Emergency Incidents
  • Completing an accurate LOGBOOK AND disposition form
  • Monitoring the Crews during an incident via CCTV
  • Responsible for raising purchase requisition and Purchase orders for several of the Airside Departments including the project team via D365 and our internal Operational Accounts systems. This will include paying invoices, ordering items – closing purchase orders and making amendments. Raising one of payments and dealing with New Suppliers
  • Raising Temporary vehicle and person passes through the Airport Gateway System
  • For safety and weather standby ensure a safety report is raised through our Centrix system
  • Recording out of hours sickness and completing the call out procedure to ensure we have the correct staffing for opening the operation.
  • Initiation, monitoring, updating & testing of the LCY Crisis Response Plan as requested by the Watch Manager / Emergency Planning Manager
  • Train all ARFFS personnel in the competencies with the watch room, this is to be recorded in PDR PRO training competency system, this will be ongoing training, so personnel are able to step in & support in the absence of the watch room controller.
  • Attending Emergency Planning Meeting and you will be required to take the minutes.
  • Deal with daily incoming calls and emails and respond accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Positive & proactive
  • Security CTC
  • A good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent including English language.
  • Attend any courses that we feel may be applicable for the role
