General Job Description
The Vice President of Operations is the organization’s leader accountable for all day-to-day operations across South Florida & the Caribbean, currently including St. John, St. Thomas, Key West, Key Largo and Turks and Caicos. This position will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations activities in the organization, ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. This position will supervise the senior leadership in all locations and have responsibility for driving overall revenue goals, bottom line financial performance, guest satisfaction, employee engagement, safety, and client satisfaction for this region. The scope of responsibilities will include, but not be limited to managing all in-market leadership, liaising with Human Resources, Finance, Asset Management and Sales & Marketing, along with building and managing relationships with hotel partner’s leadership teams. Overall responsibilities include the following and are not limited by other reasonable tasks assigned by the RED Leadership Team.
OVERALL
- Lead the property-level management teams in each market, to generally include sales, beach, marine, retail, transportation and property operations
- Challenge and motivate direct reports to meet and exceed financial and operational goals
- Manage budget (revenue, labor, expenses, etc.) and critique all departmental finances
- Ensure robust recruiting, hiring, training, and disciplinary practices in all markets
- Maintain collaborative and successful working relationships with direct reports, other internal divisions, resort partners and third-party vendors
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations
LEADERSHIP
- Establish and hold high standards for guest service and safety
- Create effective structures, processes, and job and performance management systems
- Set goals and objectives for direct reports based on RED business goals to align performance expectations and accountability
- Support tools, training, and learning and development (L&D) resources to educate and develop all team members
- Observe service, organization, and communication behaviors of direct reports and provide regular and actionable feedback
FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING
- Create and manage annual operating budgets
- Facilitate monthly financial critiques with direct reports
- Establish and track incentive performance and the setting of aggressive performance targets for direct reports
HUMAN RESOURCES
- Oversee all in-market human resources activities, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, discipline, equity reviews and local compliance
- Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training of all senior operations management in all markets.
- Forecast talent needs and manage talent acquisition
- Ultimate ownership and responsibility in creating and maintaining up-to-date training, hiring, and onboarding manuals and standards
- Ultimate responsibility in ensuring that all staff certifications and training, including CPR, emergency training, etc., are regularly completed, renewed, and documented
- Handle discipline and requests of termination of employees in accordance with company policies
OPERATIONS
- Oversee the daily workflow of all senior operations management in all markets
- Work with RED’s Asset Management team to ensure successful maintenance and compliance of all assets
- Conduct monthly performance critiques with RED senior leadership
- Monitor and support sales and booking goals for direct reports
- Develop a culture of inclusiveness, communication and respect amongst the team
- Observe, modify and implement new policies and procedures to continuously challenge the status quo and refine the business model by offering better value to our customers
- Incorporate guest satisfaction as a crucial component of business development, with a focus on associate recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Maintain successful performance by increasing revenue, controlling expenses, and accurately forecasting for both sales and retail
- Oversee successful establishment and maintenance of vendor and third-party relationships
- Regularly review and verify maximization of revenue opportunities in all markets
- Accountable for the achievement of all property retail sales and inventory management goals
- Ensure maintenance of all hotel partner relationships
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or another industry-related field required
- At least 10 years of industry-related experience including three years in upper management required
- Demonstrable history of full P&L responsibility
- Exceptional tenure in each position and progressive career growth and development
- Ability to work flexible hours due to guest demands, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Experience working/living in the Caribbean or ability to work independently in a remote/challenging environment
- Authorization to work in the U.S. for any employer.
- Previous concierge watersports and/or high-end resort experience a plus
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Must be able to write English in a professional manner, as well as communicate verbally at the same level
