Job description
The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Thermal Performance Validation team, you are responsible for qualifying and modeling new and existing thermal systems and actuators for Tesla Energy’s world class products. This role involves collaboration with several cross functional teams and requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to model and validate thermal systems. Our team is small, committed, fast moving and we believe a diverse team of motivated individuals can accomplish almost anything. We are problem solvers, team players and game changers. If this sounds like you, Tesla just might be the place to make your mark!
What You’ll Do- Own and drive hardware validation efforts for thermal systems and components such as compressors, pumps, fans, heat exchangers, etc
- Manage hardware performance validation – including test planning, setup design, development, execution, root cause analysis, data processing, and correlating and comparing results to simulation data
- Develop thermal component test infrastructure including detailed mechanical design work, writing and maintaining test software to automate test execution, data collection, and data analysis
- Collaborate with firmware and control engineers to develop thermal controls and create full regression tests to ensure test coverage of requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar discipline – all experience levels considered
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
- Experience modeling, testing, or designing thermal components (fans, pumps, compressors, heat sinks, heat exchangers, etc)
- Fluency in the use of analytical simulation tools for thermal analysis, such as Matlab or Python
- Experience using standard lab and test equipment such as power supplies, DMMs, DAQs, pressure transducers, flowmeters, thermocouples, etc
- Understanding of low voltage and high voltage components/circuits and how to debug them
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar discipline
- Fluency in CFD Software
- Experience working with liquid cooled thermal management systems for batteries or power converters
- Experience working with vapor compression cycles and or heat pump systems
