Job description
Job Purpose
To undertake a range of duties principally at the undergraduate level associated with the teaching and assessment of the relevant target language, particularly in its spoken forms, and to undertake associated administration as requested by the Head of College/School/RI/Service in order to contribute to College/School/RI/Service teaching and learning objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To deliver a range of teaching activities within the specific subject specialism, principally at undergraduate level, to the ultimate achievement of College/School/RI/Service teaching objectives.
2. In conjunction with the relevant class convenor contribute to the development and use of appropriate course materials to ensure that content and methods of delivery meet learning objectives.
3. To participate in the assessment process using a variety of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning. Where required, to assist in marking Undergraduate student assessment.
4. To supervise practical work, advising on skills, methods and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge.
5. To undertake limited departmental administrative duties as requested by the Head of Section or College/School/RI/Service.
Qualifications
Essential:
A1. A first degree in relevant subject specialism
A2. Apt. level of knowledge and expertise in the subject specialism in order to deliver course material.

C5. Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.
Experience
Essential:
E1. Broad teaching experience at undergraduate or equivalent level
E2. Proven track record in teaching
Dimensions
Deliver teaching across a number of undergraduate levels
Develop and maintain teaching plans and materials on an ongoing basis throughout the year
Undertake teaching in accordance with a fair distribution of the College/School/RI/Service workload
Interact with colleagues at College/School/RI/Service level as appropriate for the fulfilment of course objectives.
Assisting with the design, implementation and maintenance of courses across a number of levels of undergraduate study.
Assisting with the design, production and maintenance of assessment instruments and material in connection with same.
Planning and Organising
Effective organisation skills to effectively manage time and prioritise as appropriate teaching and administrative duties.
Reactive - Daily queries from departmental staff/students.
Weekly/monthly – class planning, organisation and materials generation.
Planning and organisation of work with other tutors as appropriate
Plan and organise administrative duties on an ongoing basis.

Take decisions as appropriate in accordance with assessment processes, course content and committee advice.
Prioritise own work.
Course design and materials generation

Section Convener for exchanging information and learning and teaching strategy.
Teaching team for curriculum delivery and overall assessment.

U/G students for teaching and learning support.
Academic support services for appropriate advice and for exchanging information.
Student support services, to exchange information, refer/support students.
External
Interaction with academic colleagues in other Universities, to exchange ideas and information about teaching practice
Problem Solving
Act as first point of contact for problems/enquiries from students in subject area.
Solve teaching problems e.g. delivery of materials to mixed-ability groups etc.
Assist students with issues relative to welfare.
