About the Role
As a Learning Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting learners throughout their educational journey. Your primary objective will be to assist them in achieving their learning goals, maintaining their motivation, and overcoming any obstacles they encounter during their programme. Collaborating closely with curriculum delivery teams, you will provide valuable support-related information to ensure that learners are enrolled in appropriate learning programmes tailored to their individual needs. By conducting learning support interviews and initial assessments, you will identify specific learning support requirements and evaluate the necessary assistance.
It will be your responsibility to maintain accurate records of learning support activities, ensuring that individual learning support plans and strategies are promptly generated, monitored, and updated. As a Learning Mentor, you will provide personalised learning support to individuals on a one-on-one basis, as well as in small groups or within larger classroom settings as required. Furthermore, you will create opportunities for learners to develop their independent learning skills and encourage them to become self-reliant whenever possible.
About You
The ideal candidate will possess a Level 2/3 Learning Support or mentoring/coaching qualification, along with GCSE grade A*-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths. They should also hold a full driving licence. Additionally, previous experience in a mentoring, coaching, or counselling role within adult education is necessary.
The ideal candidate should have experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds and be skilled in supporting their individual needs. They must be adept at maintaining accurate records, completing administrative tasks, and managing confidential information. Familiarity with conducting assessments, monitoring learner progress, and providing constructive feedback is essential. Collaboration with other professionals, such as trainers, tutors, and support staff, is also expected. Knowledge of learner Safeguarding and Welfare requirements, as well as relevant policies and procedures related to learner support and safeguarding, is crucial.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different individuals and situations. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening skills, and effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities are necessary. The candidate should also possess strong organisational and time management skills.
Moreover, the ideal candidate should demonstrate empathy and patience to support learners through challenges and provide emotional support and should have the ability to motivate and inspire learners, fostering a positive learning environment.
