Glasgow Prestwick Airport (GPA) has a new and exciting opportunity for a full time Training & Competence Lead to support the Human Resources Director (HRD) with improving / driving purposeful training and learning in a heavily regulated aviation environment. The role is full time, office based, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or hold equivalent role related qualifications or experience. This is a broadly a standalone role, reporting directly to the HRD so will require an individual who is self-motivated, has a “can do” proactive attitude, excellent administration skills and is able to work on their own initiative.

Owned by the Scottish Government, Glasgow Prestwick Airport directly employs more than 250 people and supports over 4,000 jobs across the aerospace cluster. Job Scope:

To oversee GPA’s compliance with regulatory and statutory provisions insofar as they apply to training, in accordance with a training plan and budget.

To enable development at all levels of the organisation in line with business requirements by identifying training needs, preparing training materials and conducting training programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively ensure compliance in process, documentation, policy, and behaviours.
  • Responsible for accurately maintaining personnel training and competency records to ensure full compliance with company procedures.
  • Arranging and coordinating personnel attending competency tests / resits and further training as recommended by Managers.
  • Issuing reminders to all personnel regarding upcoming training renewals.
  • Support in coordinating in-house training where applicable.
  • Update incoming certification and competency within the Company training system (Redkite).
  • Develop training and competence plans / reports for review by, or with, the HR Director.
  • Support with employee personal development plans.
  • Ensure mandatory training is monitored, maintained, and completed within a timely manner and is in line with the agreed training matrices.
  • Identify training gaps, develop gap analysis plans, and perform regular audits and gap analysis on personnel training records by running monthly reports.
  • Support the business and participate in the continuous review and development of training and competency related systems and processes to ensure they remain robust and fit-for-purpose.
  • Ensure monitoring/status reports on gaps are actioned by running weekly reports.
  • Liaise with external training partners to ensure all training requirements are met.
  • Provide support with training and competence related queries and respond to incoming emails.
  • Provide management and internal stakeholders with training and competency related reports on a regular basis as agreed.
  • Contribute effectively to driving efficiencies by sharing best practice and building a “one team” culture.
  • Collaborate with other Training partners in different businesses to share best practice.
  • Ensure participation in performance through the relevant processes and initiatives, ensuring the appropriate knowledge and skills are in place.
  • Liaise and support management, operations, and employees to ensure awareness and involvement in key training and competency issues/initiatives.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent relevant to the post (desirable).
  • Previous experience in a Training, Competence, Learning or Development role.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Understanding of various industry Awarding Bodies.
  • Knowledge of the Airport industry (desirable).
  • Familiarity with Competence Management Systems and processes (desirable).

  • Sound understanding of the end-to-end training and competency function.
  • Ability to work under own initiative & operate under pressure.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage time / work effectively.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  • Ability to plan projects to delivery.
  • Analytical, problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of quality assurance.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Be flexible to changing priorities based on department and business needs.
  • Team player working with all departments across the business campus.
  • Show initiative and possess a “can do” attitude with a “problem identification - solution proposal” approach.
