Job description

OPPORTUNITY TO UNDERTAKE SCPHN (HEALTH VISITING) QUALIFICATION

Full time in line with University time table, (37.5 hours per week)

NHS Forth Valley is offering an opportunity for registered nurses and midwives to undertake a programme of postgraduate study, that will lead to registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - Health Visitor, with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) of the United Kingdom (UK). This opportunity will be offered in conjunction with the University of Stirling who will provide learning as part of the SCQF level 11 (Masters Level) MSc in Early Years Practice (Health Visiting). Candidates will come into post several months prior to the course commencing in September 2023 in order to gain an understanding of Health Visiting role and gain a level of practice. The course is offered on a fully funded full-time basis for one year.

In line with the Standards of Proficiency for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (2004), students undertaking the programme will have a balance between practice and theory which will be 50% practice and 50% theory across the whole programme.

The candidate must have effective registration as a nurse or midwife with the UK NMC. They must have a passion for working with children and families and a knowledge base about Scotland’s public health agenda. They require to be a self-motivated practitioner and able to demonstrate an evidence-based approach to practice. The diversity and on-going development of services within primary care requires clinical practitioners that are committed to enhancing their own skills through continuous professional development and a commitment to lifelong learning.

In the practice setting students will be supported by a practice supervisor and an assessor. Experienced Health Visitors will help the student to develop a programme of learning experiences and will be responsible for assessment of competence. The learning outcomes of the modules are achieved by both university and practice-based learning and are assessed by a variety of methods including written assignments, examination and professional portfolios of learning.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. More information on this scheme can be found at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk

You must also fulfil criteria required by University of Stirling to undertake the programme at Masters Level - see university website.
