Job description

If you are a motivated aspiring clinical leader who is committed to providing high quality patient care and maintain high standards in Endoscopy then this could be a great opportunity for you.
Training involves a clinically based and academically focussed learning programme in diagnostic upper GI endoscopy. To be considered for this post you must have proven band 6 experience in Endoscopy. A condition of employment for this post will be successfully obtaining course placement.
In this role you will be required to complete the full training programme to achieve competence and JAG certification to carry out diagnostic and therapeutic UGI and LGI endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). Once achieving competence in one modality you will progress to band 7. You will progress to the band 8a once competent in both modalities where you will then be expected to contribute towards training of trainee endoscopist after attending JAC Train The Trainer Course.
We have posts available at Ipswich Hospital and Colchester Hospital. Cross site cover may be required from time to time.
We are fully committed to supporting the successful applicant through the programme where you will be required to participate in regular training lists leading to JAG accreditation, via the JETS system. Initially your training will be to learn the relevant skills required to perform diagnostic upper GI endoscopy and then progress to therapeutic lower endoscopy and polypectomy.
In return for this extensive training package it is expected that once trained you will provide 4-6 endoscopy lists per week, which may include participation in screening initiatives and cover for vacant lists. Weekend working will be part of routine rotation.
You will also be expected to develop, lead and implement nurse-led practice, as required by the service. These can include, for example, capsule endoscopy, oesophageal physiology studies, abdominal paracentesis, breath testing, IBD/dyspepsia/HPB clinics. The possibilities for service development are vast and these will be agreed with the successful applicant to find something that both suits the service and captivates the practitioner.
