Train Dispatcher, London, Marylebone
Chiltern Railways are responsible for operating a rail service from London Marylebone through to Birmingham, with many stops in-between around the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire areas.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Train Dispatcher at London Marylebone Station. As a Train Dispatcher you will ensure punctual train dispatch of passenger trains and ensure the station is well presented. Based primarily on station platforms you will have responsibility for the whole station including the car park and you will provide general assistance to customers as required. Responsible for the provision of a proactive customer focused information service and a high quality of customer services for Chiltern customers. Ensure safe operation of the station and train dispatching duties. Responsible for providing a clean, well-maintained and welcoming environment for all station customers.
Role Responsibilities:
- · To be present at the arrival and departure of all services as directed by the Senior Station Manager/ Station Manager, Marylebone Controllers and conduct train dispatch duties in accordance with the relevant section of the Rule Book
- · Provide help and assistance to all customers
- · Ensure that engines are started and basic cab preparation is carried out for units that have been berthed in the station for more than 20mins.
- · To ensure that trains are dispatched from Marylebone safely and promptly
- · Passengers to be made aware that their train is ready to depart by use of the dispatcher’s whistle
- · Ensure the safety of all customers by the prompt reporting and implementation of local protective measures in respect of identified defects and hazards
- · Ensure the safety of all customers by the implementation of emergency measures in respect of inclement weather conditions in accordance with local instructions
- · To ensure that a high standard of station cleanliness is maintained in accordance with local instructions
- · Take responsibility for the locking out of coaches/units where the train is too long for the stopping pattern of the train
- · Assist with the facilitation of unit swaps as instructed by the Marylebone ICC controller
Person Specification:
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely to produce written reports of incidents
- Able to verbally communicate operational and safety messages clearly and concisely using radio communications and tannoy’s.
- Ability to comply with company instructions
- Remains calm under pressure of emergency or unexpected situations
- Desire to use own initiative to ensure customer is left delighted
- Flexible approach to working conditions and changing working environment.
- High Level of attention to detail
- Able to attend a changing shift pattern
- Previous experience of working within a customer facing environment
- Good interpersonal skills
- Able to arrive on time to work when no public transport is available
