Applications are invited to apply for a consultant position in Cellular Pathology at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The laboratory has recently moved to a new facility fully kitted out on the Whiteknights Campus at the University of Reading.
The post is full time, and applicants who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full time, are also eligible to apply. If such person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the trust, in consultation with consultant colleagues.
A simulation assessment will be held as a part of the interview process, followed by a Panel interview.
You will be contracted to provide histopathology (and non-gynaecological cytology services is also desirable) at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, alongside colleagues in Cellular Pathology. There will be opportunities for teaching, and this will include Cellular Pathology Specialty Trainees from Oxford rotation and Buckingham University Medical Students. You will be responsible for clinical liaison and participation in multidisciplinary meetings (as lead or deputy lead) in one or two areas.
Coroner’s autopsies on-site are arranged by an external provider. There may be an opportunity to join the Coroner’s autopsy rota, subject to discussion, but this is not a requirement of the post.
The Cellular Pathology Laboratory is fully accredited to ISO15189 standards, and the Mortuary has a HTA License.
Each consultant is provided with an individual office, personal computer, and consultant grade double-headed microscope with facility for digital microphotography. The supporting secretarial and administrative staff are shared by the consultants.
The new laboratory is fully equipped with six cut up benches (including adjustable AFOS table) and in-house comprehensive immunohistochemistry service. A digital pathology implementation project is underway (with scanner on site) in collaboration with Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services.
There is a departmental multi-headed microscope, which is used for Cellular Pathology Internal Quality Assurance and teaching/educational meetings.
