Position:

We are now seeking an enthusiastic scientist to join our cell culture and protein expression facility. The candidate will be part of the wider Biochemistry group which supports our drug discovery platform and is expected to maintain, both mammalian and insect cell lines, and to expand suspension cell cultures to enable large scale expressions. The candidate must therefore have experience working in tissue culture facilities. Experience in molecular biology and biochemistry would be advantageous.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:


  • Expertise in sterile cell culture techniques
  • Expertise in handling adherent and suspension mammalian and insect cell cultures
  • Expertise in Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS) and in raising baculoviruses
  • Experience with transient transfection methods and baculovirus mediated protein expression protocols
  • Comprehensive and accurate record keeping and reporting skills
  • Organisational skills such as maintaining and ordering lab consumables
  • Knowledge of expression quality control (QC) experiments using methods such as Western Blot, fluorescence size exclusion chromatography, FACS and ligand binding assays would be advantageous
  • Molecular biology skills such as cloning, and DNA purification would be advantageous


Requirements:

  • Educated to Master’s degree level (grade 2.1 or equivalent) or above and/or with significant professional experience in biological sciences
  • Previous laboratory experience in an industry environment is desirable
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of cell culture
  • Organised and enthusiastic and comfortable working autonomously and in a team environment
  • Competent user of MS Office applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
