The Role: Terminal Liaison Officer (TLO)


Purpose:

Responsible for the safe and effective operation of the Cruise Terminal and coordination of all on the day operational and customer service requirements as well as between all Cruise stakeholders.


Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for performing a managerial role on a cruise day, ensuring the safe and effective operational and service requirements of cruise operations and coordination with other port operations.
  • Primary point of contact and coordinator between all ‘on the day’ cruise stakeholders.
  • Responsible for ensuring cruise operations are delivered safely and terminal procedures are adhered to throughout the turnaround/transit call day.
  • Comprehensive and ongoing familiarisation with all cruise line operations and terminals within Southampton.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe practice is adhered to by all stakeholders using the site. To include coordination with wider port operations team to ensure safe interaction between cruise operations and wider port.
  • Ensure all operational infrastructure is functioning as required throughout a cruise day and if not coordinate alternative solutions or remedies.
  • Responsible for reporting any defects/incidents in a timely manner to the relevant ABP department for rectification either on the day or via the Post Cruise Vessel Report as appropriate
  • Self-management amongst a team of TLO’s to determine cruise schedule rostering duty requirements

This is a very customer driven role - you will be very organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects at any given time. You will be a real team player, eager to get stuck into this exciting and fast-paced industry and work hard. The key to success is communication, it is essential that you can use your initiative and be proactive.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience of working within a highly competitive and pressurised operating environment
  • Ability to prioritise workloads effectively and proven ability to escalate matters appropriately and deliver safe and secure operations
  • Working knowledge of the cruise terminals in Southampton, their layout and how these are best used for each cruise line and their guests
  • Self-motivated, flexible approach to work, disciplined and organised, a decision maker
  • Resilient with the ability to lead and inspire others
  • Passionate about customer service and operational quality
  • Experience of generating and implementing efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • A sound knowledge of all H&S related matters with a willingness to undertake further training
  • Experience building strong relationships, both internally and externally to the organisation, with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Full current driving licence
  • Computer literate, experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Ideal

  • Experience leading operations teams through complex situations
  • Awareness of the multi-function operational parameters the Port of Southampton provides
