Job overview
We are looking for a Dietetic Technician to join our team and would welcome applications from suitable applicants looking for either for full time and/or part time roles. The post holders will be based with the adult teams at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Working closely with dietitians, other dietetic technicians and dietetic assistants, the dietetic technician will carry out inpatient reviews, arrange educational and supportive activities for patients and carers. You will be required to take stock, order and coordinate use of nutritional products and communicate with suppliers of nutritional products. Knowledge of the medical conditions involved would be an advantage but training will be given.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have experience of working in health care, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage their workload. As a dietetic technician you will carry out straight forward dietetic assessments and follow protocol and internal guidelines to recommend and monitor the use of specific nutritional products for patients with medical conditions associated with malnutrition. This is a very busy post and you will be expected to handle a large amount of referrals and follow ups, many of these are generated by the use of MUST and are time critical on the response.
You’ll need to have excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to manage your own workload under pressure. We are looking for professional, confident, enthusiastic, driven and motivated individuals, who are team players and keen to develop their skills. We expect all staff to have the ability to work to high standards, as well as being able to recognise personal and role limitations.
This is an excellent opportunity for a person with good ICT skills, sound communication skills with the ability to be self-motivated and organised alongside possessing a methodical approach to tasks.
Previous NHS experience is an advantage and a desire to develop skills and experience to support excellent patient care. However full training will be provided. A set of working guidelines and competencies are provided to support this role. Ongoing development opportunities are available.

The Dietetic service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

JOB SUMMARY
Supports the work of the Dietetic and Nutrition service by:
Advising and monitoring patients with specific medical conditions based on agreed protocols.
Planning, delivering and evaluating educational and health promotion activities for individuals and groups.
Working within departmental team structures.
The post holder may be based on either campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
As part of this role it is essential that you will be able to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) accordingly to national and local guidance.

Person specification
Training and Qualification
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent in relevant area such as nutrition, health care or catering
- Evidence of literacy and numeracy, such as GCSE maths and English grades A-C
- IT qualification such as ECDL or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- leadership training or similar
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people who are ill, at least three years preferred
- Experience of working in health care
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of specific patient conditions gained through experience
Planning and organisation skills

- Able to carry out anthropometric measurements accurately and use relevant equipment (training can be given).
Communication and relationship skills
