Key Responsibilities:
United's award-winning Corporate Communications department manages internal and external brand reputation by building strong, meaningful relationships with employees and external stakeholders worldwide. The Senior Specialist, Operational Communications supports the team's mission and is responsible for creating relatable, clear communications for our frontline employees. They will collaborate with team members and business stakeholders to deliver communications that amplify our company priorities as well as engage and enable employees to do their jobs efficiently and deliver above-and-beyond service. Additionally, they will monitor the effectiveness of operations communication campaigns and channels, using data to make decisions to elevate engagement with the target audience. Being flexible and adaptable to the ever-evolving and around-the-clock operational needs is important for this role. This is a Chicago-based, hybrid position that will work from home and out of our downtown Chicago office on average, twice per week.
- Create, edit, manage and publish operational communications including written content and graphics
- Strong editing and collaboration skills
- Working with a team to develop content that aligns with our United brand, tone and voice
- Implement and manage timelines, scope and effectiveness of communication plans
- Must be flexible and adaptable to evolving in an ever-changing environment and around-the-clock operations
- Will need to be available to support a team that provides 24/7 on-call coverage for operations communications as needed
- Monitor the effectiveness of operational communications/channels and use analytics and data to make strategic decisions about communications and our targeted audience
- Provide operational communications support across the airline for key projects impacting the business

Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field
- Minimum three years of corporate, operations or employee communications experience
- Communications principles/understanding of AP writing style
- Digital communications
- Audience segmentation
- Superior writing, proofreading, and editing skills with the ability to adapt to different writing styles and tones
- Strong listening and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Measure the reach/effectiveness of communications; contribute to ongoing reporting
- Work in a collaborative environment both remotely and person
- Detailed, highly organized, and able to handle multiple priorities at any given point in time
- Team player: the ability to work effectively and efficiently in cross-functional teams
- Forward-thinking, diligent and creative
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in the aviation industry
- Office 365 knowledge
- 3+ years in project management experience
- Email platform systems/Salesforce/Constant Contact experience
- Sitecore and/or similar CMS
- Data collection, analytics, and customer insights
