Job description
The role
Providing support, primarily administrative, to students and staff in the School of Physics Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories, working within a small team of technicians to prepare for and assist the smooth running of practical classes.
What will you be doing?
You will become a proficient administrator of our student records system, recording student attendance and marks, preparing weekly marking schedules for students and staff. You will respond to routine queries and monitor student progress, investigating issues and escalating to managers as required. During busy periods, you will support the teaching lab technicians by helping to set out simple equipment and prepare the laboratory for classes, and dispensing consumables. Training in any practical or safety requirements will be provided; prior experience is unnecessary.
You should apply if
You have excellent organisational and IT skills, experience with accurate data entry and record keeping, and an eye for detail. The ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others is essential, and you must be confident intervening when safety protocols are not being followed and approaching students when there are pastoral concerns. You must be comfortable working in a busy environment, and experience working in a laboratory setting would be helpful. Since the primary purpose of this role is to support scheduled practical classes, this is a term-time only position. Working 28 hours Mon/Tues/Thur/Fri 9-5pm
