Job Description:
- To work with and supervise individuals and groups of children with moderate and complex special needs under the direction/instruction of teaching and/or senior staff.
- Support children with specific individual learning needs, encouraging them to learn and building their confidence and independence
- Enabling access to learning for all pupils
- Give assistance and support in classroom and manage behaviour.
- Recording and reporting pupils progress to the Teacher
- Establish good working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model
- Work with specialist teaching services, medical staff, counsellors and psychologists and parents where needed
- Actively work with pupils towards their individual achievement and objectives and success measures.
- Provide specific support to pupils dependant upon their individual needs ensuring their safety whilst supporting access to learning activities
- Promote inclusion, self-esteem and independence and acceptance of all pupils
Skills and Knowledge and Training:
- Have relevant skills and experience in working with children
- Adaptable and able to work on their own initiative
- Committed to working in partnership with colleagues, other professionals and families
- Good personal numeracy and literacy skills
- Patience and ability build and maintain stressful relationships with pupils, treat them consistently, with respect and consideration, and demonstrate concern for their development as learners
- Sensitivity and Understandin
- To be able to carry out basic tasks on the computer or hand written
- Confident to work in challenging environments and to manage challenging behaviour
- Non Judgemental, flexible, adaptable, resilient, calm, self motivated and compassionate.
