Job description
Home Instead are one of the UK's leading providers of care assistants and support workers for the elderly with over 249+ offices nationwide. We have a highly successful team of care professionals who visit our clients in their own homes, offering support and assistance where needed.
We are now looking for people who reside in Welwyn & Hatfield locations or thereabouts, (also Potters Bar and Borehamwood, to join our wonderful team of Healthcare Support Workers & Care Assistants.
We are recruiting new people who are seeking a career in Adult Care, to work in the community and who feel they have the right qualities to become one of our very special and supportive team members.
We do require that you have a car - this is essential to enable you to travel between clients each day. We also require you to be able to work your standard hours on a Saturday and Sunday on alternate weekends.
We cannot offer sponsorship to overseas candidates at this time. The role requires you to be resident in the UK and with the right to work.
If you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us and I promise someone will contact you either the same day or the next working day from receipt of your application - no hanging around with us.
I would like to share with you some of the questions I am frequently asked by candidates at interview, to give you a better understanding of the role, and requirements of the job, and hope these questions and answers encourage you to consider a career with Home Instead.
What qualities do I need to join the Home Instead team?
Common sense, we will happily train you in every other aspect of the role.
Do I get paid for the training I undertake with you?
We fully fund all training and pay you for the hours you spend on the in-house workshops and your time spent on the e-learning modules. This includes CPD courses including Dementia and End of Life training?
What exactly will I be doing when I visit my allocated clients?
Well each day is different, as is each of your clients needs. It may include personal care (assisting with washing & dressing, continence & catheter care), home help to include (light housework, shopping, washing up, putting bins out) companionship care (chatting, taking out for a coffee). Each client has a care plan which gives instructions on what their needs are and the support we give to them.
Am I expected to dash from one person to another?
All our care assistants spend a minimum of 1 hour with each client they visit - we do not do short visits.
Why do I need a car?
Our care assistants work in the community and this means visiting clients in their own homes and travelling between them each day. We also take them to appointments, shopping and social events, making a car essential.
What hours will I be expected to work and how many each week?
We do not have fixed shifts. We try to work with our care assistants around their personal availability if we can, not always possible, it depends on the requirements of our clients. This can differ at different times so we are happy to discuss availability with each person who applies to us.
Do I have to work every weekend?
We require all our staff work their normal hours on alternate weekends. People still need help on a Saturday and Sunday, but we appreciate that working every weekend can have an impact on family life, hence alternate weekend working.
Sounds great what can I expect to earn?
Our care assistants working a 30 hour working week are being paid £17,160 per annum.
I want to work less hours than that?
We will pay you an all inclusive rate that is currently averaging £13.00 per hour. Pay rates are currently under review and may include an increase in April.
Any other perks or benefits?
Too many to mention, but I will be very happy to discuss those when we speak.
