Acuren Inspection is currently seeking Manual Machinist with basic CNC skills to work in the in-house machine shop at our Anamet division in Hayward, CA. Anamet provides materials engineering analysis and laboratory testing services to a diverse base of industries, government entities, and law firms. Substantial experience with metals and plastics machining is required.
The finished products produced by our machine shop are primarily ASTM test specimens (tensile bars, Charpy V-notch bars, and bend specimens) machined from specific locations on industrial components that are then tested in our in-house mechanical testing laboratory by skilled technicians.
Each job submitted to the machine shop can be somewhat different. We receive large industrial components such as pipe, structural beams, thick-walled plate, castings and forgings, and sometimes very small pieces of material from which test specimens must be machined.

Responsibilities:

- Serve as focal point for all jobs submitted to the machine shop
- Review work order packages along with submitted materials to verify that the requested specimens can be machined from the sample received
- Assign, schedule, and coordinate machining of test specimens and fixtures according to lab priorities
- Assist in the design or modification and manufacture of test fixtures including test set-up, and fabrication of mechanical testing fixtures from sketches provided by staff engineers
- Serve as a machinist along with other machinists in the machine shop, usually working on separate job travelers, but sometimes in tandem on the same project
- Machine a variety of metals, primarily carbon steel and low-alloy steels, stainless steel, aluminum and brasses, nickel-based and titanium alloys, as well as common industrial plastics such as HDPE and epoxy-based composites
- Verify that all material is properly marked for traceability throughout the preparation process and storage
- Perform accurate inspections and verifications of machined specimens using basic Quality Control measuring tools, record findings, and report to the Quality Manager any conditions observed during sample preparation that might produce an out-of-tolerance specimen
- Manage and maintain equipment, tools, and supplies in the machine shop, including in-house calibrations as needed
- Maintain safe machining practices by adhering to industry norms for the craft and internal safety policies and procedures
- AA degree or High School diploma or equivalent, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience as a machinist.
- Basic math skills
- Experience with set-up and operation of the following machine shop equipment is required: vertical band saws, guillotine saws, lathes, vertical mills, surface and pedestal grinders and drill presses
- Ability to program, set up, and operate a CNC lathe
- Knowledge of the machining properties of various metals and plastics
- Previous work experience in an ISO 17025 machine shop a plus.
