A great opportunity to take the next step in your career

The Victim Court Support Program provides direct services to victims of serious crime through the criminal court process including emotional support, safety planning, accompaniment to court proceedings, liaising with Crown Counsel on behalf of victims, and proactively arranging referrals to other support services. These positions provide services to a diverse group of victims/witnesses involved in cases of serious crime (e.g. murder, child sexual assault, domestic violence). Many of these victims are vulnerable, at high risk and experiencing complex grief and trauma issues. These positions are highly independent, working in a courthouse setting to provide assistance to victims and their families. The position requires a high degree of self-management, strong problem solving, judgement and assessment skills along with excellent communication skills.

With a comprehensive understanding of the impacts of violence and trauma on victims of crime, Caseworkers provide emotional support, safety planning, referrals, information and accompaniment to victims and witnesses of serious offences and their families as they proceed through the court process. Caseworkers work independently at different courthouses without direct on-site supervision.

With a comprehensive understanding of the Criminal Justice System and the relevant Legislation and Policy, Caseworkers interpret and convey complex case specific information to a diverse group of victims in terms they can understand.

Job Requirements:

  • University Degree in Social Sciences (i.e. Criminology, Social Work, Psychology) with minimum one year experience providing services to victims of crime and/or trauma.

  • Consideration may be given to applicants with a Diploma or Certificate in Social Sciences (as above) with experience providing services to victims of crime and/or trauma.

  • Experience collaborating and coordinating services with government departments or other organizations to support victims of crime and/or trauma.

  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with justice system personnel (i.e. Crown Counsel, Police, and Probation).
