Supervising Surveyor

Wilsey Ham is a well-established, growing 80-year-old Civil Engineering and Surveying firm with offices in San Mateo and Chico, California. Our firm provides a full array of land development and public works design and survey services.

We are seeking an experienced and licensed Land Surveyor (LS) for the position of Supervising Surveyor based out of our San Mateo office.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a California Registered Land Surveyor candidate, with a minimum of 15 years’ experience. The Supervising Surveyor position is for a seasoned field and office Surveyor ready to manage projects along with the field and office staff. This position is based in our San Mateo office and offers a potential hybrid schedule, allowing work time to be split between the office and home upon management approval.
The ideal candidate for this opportunity is a solid leader that can work independently with minimum supervision, holds sound technical skills, takes a collaborative approach, is personable, and possesses a strong desire to make a positive contribution to the business. This position requires a well-organized and versatile individual with excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and who is experienced in the various aspects of surveying.

Responsibilities:
Project:
- Contracts: Prepare proposals and estimate work, manage, and negotiate terms
- Survey and Mapping: Prepare/direct preparation of Tentative and Final Maps, ALTA Survey Plats, Records of Survey and Corner Records, Legal Descriptions and Plats, Topographic and boundary surveys, and various other exhibits in AutoCAD Civil 3D from field data, record maps, and deeds
- Quality control and quality assurance review
- Direct office staff and field crews
- Maintain schedules and budgets
Marketing:
- Business development in both Public and Private sectors, marketing and winning work, meeting sales goal
- Client care and management
Business:
- Profitability
- Client billing and assistance with account receivables
- Risk management
- Other administrative items as required
Leadership:
- Department leadership
- Manage, lead, and motivate team members by providing mentoring, training, and evaluations
- Assist with hiring, retention, and performance improvement
Required Qualifications:
- 15+ years of demonstrated surveying and project management experience
- California Land Surveyor License
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills including an ability to interact professionally and knowledgeably with clients
We offer a generous salary and benefits package that includes company paid medical and dental insurance, vacation and a 401(k). The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $195,000, depending upon experience. Only qualified candidates that meet our requirements will be contacted.
