Role Description
The role of the IT Physical Infrastructure Design Engineer is to specify, design and deliver all Technical Equipment Rooms, Structured Cabling Systems and their supporting infrastructure across the JP Morgan EMEA corporate real estate environment.
Direct areas of responsibility include:
- Site Surveys
- Scope development
- Cost estimates
- Detailed design and tender document production
- Develop and administer RFPs
- Perform bid analysis
- Provide input to construction programs coordinating technology dependencies and JP Morgan standards
- Undertake regular on site construction progress and quality assessments
- Perform validation of as-built drawings and participate in project close-out support
This individual will be responsible for managing all deliverables throughout the specification, design, delivery and acceptance process.
You will join the global Building Technology Infrastructure team as a part of Workplace Technology Solutions reporting into the EMEA regional lead. You'll partner with Global Technology Infrastructure, Global Real Estate, Global Security and Lines of Business to deliver and support world class technology across the firm's corporate, retail and remote locations.
This position will interface directly with internal partners and external professional teams including real estate, MEP engineering, security, network engineering, AV, IT operations and project delivery. The IT Physical Infrastructure Design Engineer is considered a subject matter expert in their field and is expected to stay current with various technologies, maintain industry certifications, support organizational goals and industry trends to drive quality and value.
This role will be based in London however the role will require travel throughout Europe, the Middle East & Africa. Travel will vary based on specific projects and initiatives but is estimated at 30%.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the specification, design and delivery of Structured Cabling Systems and their supporting infrastructure
- Deliver Structured Cabling Systems within a variety of building environments including new builds, refurbishments and retro-fits
- Translate business requirements into functional technology requirements
- Represent technology teams at technical meetings with senior leadership, internal clients, professional teams and external contractors
- Manage and coordinate project engagements of our existing technology consultant partners
- Oversee engagement with and closely align with our existing technology design consultants
- Communicate Structured Cabling standards to partners, stakeholders and lines of business
- Responsible for project progress, reporting and direct liaison with internal clients
- Interface with Main Contractors, MEP Engineering and Architectural firms
- Develop relationships at all levels with key internal and external partners
- Assemble professional documents based on existing templates, create budgets and estimates
- Oversee cabling contractor activities, providing direction to address site-specific construction issues
- Provide quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate in all aspects of the infrastructure acceptance process and provide support to technology project managers
- Adhere to design standards, best practice and global design authority processes and procedures
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Degree or equivalent experience in technology, engineering or related field
- A minimum of ten years' experience in the specification, design & delivery of ICT infrastructure and Structured Cabling Systems
- Ability to create designs to meet customer-driven requirements and to accommodate unique installation challenges
- Experience with AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi, AV systems, in-building cellular/DAS, security infrastructure, BMS and Smart Buildings/IoT.
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification or equivalent is preferred.
- Management experience is desirable
- Conversant with the English language. Proficiency in other languages is desirable.
- Practical working knowledge of key Health and Safety legislation
- Good understanding of global and regional telecommunications standards, associations and best practice
- Able to clearly communicate design intent or other technical arguments as part of client facing role
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. You must be confident and feel comfortable conversing on the telephone, via email, face-to-face, delivering presentations and be able to write concise reports.
- It is imperative that you can demonstrate good attention to detail and enjoy problem solving technical and non-technical issues.
- You must be a team player but, it is important that you can work on your own initiative prioritising work and adhering to deadlines.
- You will be reliable, self-motivated and flexible. Prepared to work hard and commit to learning goals, demonstrating both resilience and perseverance.
- Solid and demonstrated experience in developing solutions aligned to business requirements that utilize the organization's standards, product sets, templates, systems and artifacts.
- Candidate should have experience operating with colleagues across different time zones with a flexible approach to working hours in order to successfully interact and communicate on a global level.
