We’re looking for a highly motivated individual for this junior role within the sound department. The Sound Trainee will provide a basic level of support to the sound team for duties relating to day to day filming.
Following appropriate training, assist the team in their performance of general operational duties including:
- Provide overall on set assistance to the sound department in studio and on location in what is a practical and administrative role.
- Assist on location shoots with rigging, de-rigging and operation of audio equipment, liaising with the actors where necessary under the instruction senior colleagues. You will study and develop the skills of a pole boom operator often under potentially stressful situations
- Develop an understanding of Sound Mixers equipment with the ability to locate and deliver to set.
- You will be required at times to help capture additional coverage using boom mics and spend time on set during rehearsals spotting and solving noise problems.
- Filling out reports and keeping notes if required as well as handling daily rushes and delivering them to the edit.
- Understand basic Health and Safety requirements and make sure equipment is suitable for use, stored safely, cables matted etc.
- To make sure you have everything to support the department during the shoot, develop your own system for rechargeable battery management and place consumables orders when stocks are low. This will require reading callsheets and forward planning.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following –
- Proven knowledge or interest in sound engineering and equipment
- A basic understanding of relevant Health & Safety guidelines and Legislation
- Willingness to learn and enthusiasm for the craft of sound
- Experience of carrying out instructions with great accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience of working under pressure in stressful situations
- Possess a level of physical stamina required for the role of pole boom operator
- Punctuality is essential as the sound department is a close working team and lateness effects the smooth running of the department.
- Experience of dealing with a range of individuals
- A valid and clean driving licence
- Knowledge and passion for Continuing Drama, especially Casualty
