West Berkshire’s, 16+ Care Leavers Team is looking to recruit two Social Workers to join their dedicated team.
The 16+ Children in Care and Care Leavers Team works on behalf of children who are in the care of West Berkshire with a Pathway Plan that identifies the need for support in care and for post 18 support, advice and guidance as a care leaver. We have a rare opportunity for two Social Workers who are dynamic, dedicated and with at least 2 years post qualifying experience to join the team. You will be organised, highly motivated and skilled in communicating with children and young people.
You will hold a case load of children and young people aged 16-17 years and will need to be committed to improving outcomes and life chances for children and young people educationally and emotionally. You will be required to fulfil the statutory duties for children who are subject to a Care Order or S20 CA 1989. This post requires someone with good emotional literacy and an attention to detail as you will be also be completing life journey work & working directly with children and young people who have experienced trauma. Alongside general caseload management you will also be required to promote and engage in participation opportunities for young people. A knowledge and experience working with teenagers will be an advantage.
This is a permanent post and the role will involve driving and transporting children so owning your own vehicle is essential. Out of hours working is often necessary.
We are based in Market Street, Newbury. You will be part of a supportive and friendly team. You will receive regular supervision, peer support and have access to good quality training.

This role requires the incumbent to have a car available at work to undertake his/her duties as they will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. Essential Car User status attracts a lump sum allowance paid on a monthly basis as well as a free car parking space if he/she works at one of the Council’s corporate buildings.
This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.
