Hours: 45 Hours per week
Shift Pattern: 2 early shifts, 2 late shifts, 2 nights shifts, then 4 days off (6 days on, 4 days off)

Job Description
Perform analysis safely, on time and to recognised international methods and local documented procedures and the preparation of reports via Cclas for issuance to clients to ensure the highest service possible is delivered.
Deliver consistently high standards of analytical performance whilst ensuring the laboratory meets ISO 17025 requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- All testing work and reporting to be carried out as instructed by Supervisor/Manager in a timely manner and in line with the requirements of the laboratory standard ISO 17025 to ensure the retention of accreditation as this is essential to the commercial viability of the laboratory and customer confidence.
- Perform calibrations and maintain equipment as instructed by Supervisor/ Manager in order to ensure that reported results are accurate and delivered on time in line with customer requirements.
- Demonstrate compliance to all test methods, procedures and quality systems as there are essential criteria for UKAS accreditation and SGS Laboratory practices, e.g. perform routine SQC analysis where required plot the data and apply the run rules, ensuring any failure of a run rule is recorded, investigated and the appropriate action taken
- Liaise with Laboratory Manager if a problem with equipment, methods or samples occurs and initiate corrective actions to ensure continuity of service.
- Identify and help to implement improvements to current laboratory operations in order to maximise equipment availability, ensure technical standards are maintained and improved, promote continuous improvement and provision of a quality service to clients, thus ensuring profitability.
- Maintain organised and auditable systems of work to permit traceability and ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation.
Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Must be computer literate in use of word, excel and LIMS (Cclas) systems.
- Must have and maintain knowledge of chemistry, international analytical standards, operational procedures analytical equipment and methods such as IP, ASTM.
- Effective interpersonal, team working and organisational skills.
- Ability to work and plan work with minimal supervision, often for extended periods.
- Thorough understanding of the significance of the tests conducted, and the importance of providing a high level of customer service.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of the environmental testing industry encompassing a broad spectrum of methods and analysis including all routine standard testing performed.
- Previous experience of working in a testing laboratory, meeting exacting process and client demands.
Qualifications
Essential
- Maths and English GCSE or equivalent, grades (A to C) as a minimum.
- HNC / GCSE or equivalent in Chemistry or similar scientific discipline
- HND / A Level in chemistry
Desirable
- Preferrably educated to degree level in Chemistry or a related science
