Position Description:
The Toronto Region Board of Trade (the Board) is looking for an experienced, professional writer with a strong grasp of narrative development and storytelling to research, draft, refine and facilitate content creation in response to corporate objectives. Reporting to the Director, Editorial and Content, this role will be responsible for writing and editing executive level speeches and remarks, op-eds, corporate blogs, case studies, reports, digital content, and other products as needed. The ideal candidate will be comfortable unpacking complex policy and economic subject matter and working with multiple stakeholders and internal partners to develop materials that further the Board’s thought-leadership position through audience reach and engagement. The ability to meet deadlines, a commitment to teamwork, and a keen eye for detail will be the critical to success in this role.
Role Description:
- Deliver high-quality, client-focused, and compelling speech writing for the Board’s CEO and other senior executives. Capture thematic narrative and storytelling that reflects the unique voice of the speaker.
- Craft innovative and compelling stories and storylines to intrigue and gain interest from different audiences, ensuring material align with the organization’s strategic priorities. Products can include remarks in addition to blogs, scripts, op-eds, web copy and other deliverables.
- Provide reliable editing services for the organization to ensure consistency of brand voice across all final content in accordance with company standards.
- Research and understand the story and hook behind a potential product, identifying target audience needs, current affairs and stakeholder perspective through interviews, online searches, review of existing board position, and feedback.
- Present outlines, drafts, and final deliverables for input from various teams and departments within the organization.
- Interpret creative briefs to develop and produce quality content aligned to corporate marketing, communications, and public advocacy goals.
- Collaborate with members of the communications and marketing team from concept development to the delivery of published content.
- Develop best practices, processes, and templates to ensure corporate systems remain efficient and intact.
Your experience includes:
- 3-5 years’ experience with professional writing across a variety of channels.
- Proficiency in speech writing and development of executive voice.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate to different audiences.
- Experience in multi-channel writing, design, storytelling, and strategic messaging.
- Strong organizational skills and time-management skills with the ability to work with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines.
- Journalism experience and/or strong understanding of journalism best-practices.
